Chronicles of Tyria's Feature writing contest!

header-simple-copy.pngHello, Tyrians! To celebrate the second anniversary of Guild Wars 2, the upcoming feature pack, as well as the anniversary of CoT's creation, we are launching a brand new writing contest. The contest winner will have the opportunity to become a permanent writer for the website. This is a long-term opportunity, with significant potential to get your name and work out into the Guild Wars 2 community in addition to being able to have access to a platform to publish your creativity.Qualities that we're looking for in applicantsWe are first, and foremost, an English-language site, and anyone wanting to join the writing team must have a sturdy grasp of written English.Self-motivated and hardworking. The current load of work expected from our writing team is to post one part of your chapter every fortnight. This is a significant commitment and requires an author that is capable of both a sustained, high standard of work, and consistency in that standard.Knowledge of Guild Wars lore. You will be writing original fiction based upon the world of Tyria. While you won't be expected to know the entire GW1/GW2 wiki forwards and backwards, you need to have at least a working knowledge of the history and cultures of the world that you will be working in.A passion for both writing and Guild Wars 2. It's simple really; these are the motivations that started our project, that will continue to direct our growth over time, and that are shared among all the members of our team.Guidelines for submissionsMust be original work. No plagiarism, multiple authorship, copying, etc. It must be your work, and your work alone.Must be in the form of a first-person narrative. Any form of narrative is acceptable; however, it must be written from the perspective of a single character, whom the author will write and develop over the course of the project.CoT is looking to breed diversity in the stories that we feature on our website. Considering we already have a sylvari-ranger, charr-necromancer, human-elementalist, asura-thief and a charr-ranger, submissions with different combination of race/profession will be favoured.Must be at least 1,500 words. A proper, chapter-length submission will be roughly this word-count; so you can expect the writing of your submission to reflect the amount of work that will be required for each chapter.PromptIntroduce your character to the readership in approximately 1,500 words. Either a prologue to the story that you will pursue, or the first chapter of said story, will be acceptable. There will be two rounds of eliminationRound 1 will consist of an individual review of your work by the staff of CoT. If you are selected to proceed to round two, a critique of your work will be returned to you and a short period will be given for the critique to be utilized in the creation of a second-draft.Round 2 will consist of further individual reviews. Authors who distinguish themselves in this round will have an individual interview with the staff of CoT (via Skype most likely), after which, a small pool of finalists will be chosen. Please note that writers who have already shown an interest in writing for Chronicles of Tyria in the past, via our forums or prior contests, will have bonus points during the submission evaluation by the current writing team.PrizesFirst place : Permanent position on the CoT writing teamSecond place : Permanent position on the writing team or submission added as a one-shot (Will be decided by the staff of CoT)Third place : Submission added as a one-shot to the websitePayment systemWith this new contest, we are introducing a payment system for our writing team.
